Workshop to promote cooperation between academies, universities and industry.

Are the academy of science and education sufficiently linked to the needs of practice? How does education and the Slovak Academy of Sciences help to improve the competitiveness of industrial enterprises in Slovakia? What is the connection between the academy, universities and industry? All these issues were the subject of the 2nd Strategic Workshop for Promoting Cooperation between Academy, Universities and Industry.

2. Strategic workshop to promote cooperation between academies, universities and industry was held under the auspices of Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics of Slovak Academy of Sciences, Society for New Materials and Technologies, Institute of Materials and also Institute of Production Technologies, Faculty of Materials Science and Technology in Trnava on 17 - 18 October 2019 at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology in Trnava, Slovak Technical University in Bratislava.
The seminar was attended by 78 participants, representing 2 universities, 3 academic institutions and 25 manufacturing companies operating in the region of Western and Central Slovakia in the fields of mechanical engineering, automotive, power engineering, electrical engineering, etc. There were also representatives of nuclear research companies. The main partners of the event were Carl Zeiss Slovakia s.r.o. and Mitar s.r.o.
During the workshop, the presentations of individual workplaces (IMMM SAS, IM FMST STU and IPT FMST STU) were presented in order to introduce the infrastructure and possibilities of cooperation not only among themselves but also with companies. There was also space for poster presentations of the research results of the participating academic, research and development workplaces. During the moderated discussions, the participants had the opportunity to obtain information and exchange their views on the issue of whether the education and academies of science are sufficiently connected with the needs of practice? How does education and the Slovak Academy of Sciences help to improve the competitiveness of industrial enterprises in Slovakia? What does linking academy, universities and industry bring to society? The conclusions of the discussions will be implemented in the project to support new forms of education in the field of engineering technologies and materials (KEGA 022STU-4/2019), which aims to intensify the development of key and professional competencies of university graduates in the context of current requirements of industrial practice. The project is solved at the Institute of Production Technologies Faculty of Materials Science and Technology in Trnava under the leadership of Professor Peter Šugár.
Finally, all of the participants noted the need for such workshops in order to set up cooperation between companies, academies and schools so as to increase the competitiveness of industrial companies operating in Slovakia by transferring know-how from research and development to industrial realization.
